Learning to trust God in anxiety-how to stop worrying for the Christian stay at home mom
"But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." — Jeremiah 17:7-8
Blessed is the mom who trusts in the Lord!
As a stay-at-home mom, you wear many hats—teacher, nurse, chef, peacekeeper, and so much more. Your days are full, often unpredictable, and sometimes draining. It’s no wonder that anxiety can creep in quietly, making you feel overwhelmed or worried about what tomorrow holds. Maybe you worry about your children’s future, your family’s finances, or even your own emotional and spiritual wellbeing. These are real concerns, and they matter deeply. But God reminds us in Jeremiah that true blessing comes when we place our trust and confidence fully in Him, no matter the circumstances around us. When your heart is anchored in God’s love and promises, you become like a strong tree, deeply rooted and nourished by His living water, unshaken by life’s storms.
Learning to trust God doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a daily, sometimes moment-by-moment choice to let go of fear and embrace faith. When anxiety whispers lies like “I’m not enough,” or “This is too much for me,” you can respond with the truth of God’s word: “I am deeply loved and cared for by my Heavenly Father.” Trusting God means believing He has the power to handle every challenge you face, even those that seem too big or too tangled to untangle. It’s believing that His plan for you and your family is good, even when you can’t see the whole picture. This kind of trust brings peace that goes beyond understanding and gives you strength to face each day with hope.
One of the hardest parts of being a stay-at-home mom is how lonely it can feel sometimes. You may long for adult conversation, creative outlets, or even just a quiet moment alone. Anxiety often feeds on these feelings of isolation and inadequacy, convincing you that you’re failing or missing out. But the beautiful truth is that God sees your efforts—no matter how small—and treasures your faithful heart. Just like the tree in Jeremiah’s verse, your roots can grow deep in God’s care, even in the quiet moments. When you feel dry or tired, God’s living water refreshes your soul, fills your heart, and gives you the strength to keep growing and bearing fruit in your unique season.
Imagine your roots reaching down into the streams of living water that Jesus offers. This image is powerful because it reminds us that true life and strength don’t come from our circumstances, achievements, or even how others see us. They come from being connected to Jesus, the source of all life. Sometimes, when our roots feel small or weak, God’s streams are still flowing, ready to nurture and grow us even through the hardest times. He never stops loving us or providing for us, no matter how chaotic life may seem. This is why it’s so important to be mindful of what you let into your heart and mind. The endless stream of negative news, social media pressure, and overwhelming expectations can fill our hearts with fear and doubt. But God’s living water—His word, His presence, His promises—can drown out that noise and restore your peace.
The enemy uses fear as a powerful weapon to trap us in worry and keep us from fully trusting God. It can feel like a fortress of anxiety surrounding your mind, telling you to be afraid of the future, afraid of what might happen to your family, or afraid of not being enough. Yet, most of the fears we carry are based on things that will never come to pass. Worry steals the joy and strength of today by dragging us into an imagined future filled with “what-ifs.” But God’s word reminds us to live one day at a time, trusting that He holds the future. When you start feeling anxious, take a moment to breathe deeply, pray, and remind yourself that God is in control. Let go of the need to predict or fix everything, and rest in the security that He is your shelter and provider.
Think about the love God has for you and your family. He is the same God who sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for your sins, who rose again to give you new life and hope. This God is not distant or unaware of your struggles; He is right beside you, holding you close even in the messiest, busiest days of motherhood. When doubt creeps in, ask yourself: Do I really believe He will never leave me or forsake me? Will He care for me even when I feel invisible or overwhelmed? The answer is yes, without a doubt. His love for you is deeper than any fear or worry you carry. Cling to this truth as your anchor.
One of my favorite Bible verses that helps me when anxiety tries to take over is found in Matthew 6:26, where Jesus tells us to look at the birds of the air. These little creatures don’t sow, reap, or gather food for the future, yet God feeds them and cares for them daily. If God takes care of birds that seem so small and fragile, how much more will He care for you, His precious child? You are infinitely more valuable to Him than any bird. This reminder can help shift your perspective when you feel anxious or overwhelmed. God’s care for you is personal, tender, and unending. You don’t have to carry your burdens alone.
So, dear stay-at-home mom, when the pressures of life threaten to dry you out or make your leaves wilt, remember Jeremiah’s promise: you can be like a tree planted by the water, unafraid of the heat or droughts. Your trust in God will keep you strong, your spirit green, and your heart full of life. No matter the challenges you face—whether it’s exhaustion, loneliness, or worry—you can rest in the assurance that God’s living water will nourish you and help you bear fruit in your motherhood journey. Your faith and trust are powerful gifts, not just for you but for your family as well.
Today, make the choice to trust God more deeply. Pray for His peace to guard your heart and mind. Seek His presence in everyday moments—whether during nap time, while doing chores, or in quiet prayer. Let your roots sink deep into His love, and watch how He strengthens you to flourish, no matter what the day brings. You are not alone. You are deeply loved. And you are truly blessed.
